-
Remove the cover on your case.
-
Remove any cards that are in your PC. These might be modems, network cards, video cards, sound cards, etc.
-
Carefully remove all cabling that attaches to the motherboard. Pay attention to where each cable or ribbon goes.
Most likely you will need to remove one or two IDE cables (for the hard drive or
CD ROM), a cable for the floppy drive,
many small wires attached to the front of the motherboard (indicator lights, power/reset button), and the cables that provide
power to the motherboard.
-
Unplug the fan that cools the processor.
-
Adjust all the cables so that they are out of the way of the motherboard.
-
If the motherboard is attached to the case with screws, remove them.
They should be located at each corner of the motherboard and a couple along the edges.
Some motherboards are held in with clips. Use a needle nose pliers to squeeze these while pulling up gently on the motherboard.
